Culture Forward presents six-year arts and culture action plan for Nevada County

Date:

TRUCKEE, Calif. – On Dec. 10, the Nevada County Arts Council, alongside partners from Grass Valley-Nevada City Cultural District and Truckee Cultural District, unveiled Culture Forward’s developing countywide Arts and Culture Action Plan, offering the public a first look at a long-term strategy to support arts, culture and creativity across Nevada County.

The six-year plan, now in its final stages, is expected to be formally adopted and move toward implementation in January 2026.

“Truckee Cultural District’s success is a direct result of our deep collaboration with our core partners. These partnerships comprising local government, the business sector, and the arts community are vital for fulfilling the district’s mission: to foster authentic cultural opportunities, increase the visibility of local artists, and celebrate diverse peoples and perspectives in Eastern Nevada County,” said Kellie Cutler, Truckee Cultural District Program Manager.

“People here care about future generations and their ability to keep enjoying arts and culture, and what it’s going to look like for them,” said David Holland, senior partner at Scansion, the consulting agency partnered with Culture Forward. “We want these plans to really reflect, breathe and live the life of these communities.”

The plan’s development has unfolded over four major phases. The first focused on project planning, reviewing existing local and regional plans, and interviewing key stakeholders. The second phase involved community engagement, including 12 in-person listening sessions, nine focus groups with local leaders, and bilingual surveys completed by 629 residents. The third phase centered on synthesizing feedback through collaborative sessions, while the current and final phase, directions and solutions, is where recommendations and concrete action steps take shape.

On Wednesday, members of the public were able to ask questions and offer recommendations to the consulting firm and Culture Forward partners, marking a final step in the action plan’s development focused on refining details and informing the community.

“By working together, Town of Truckee, Truckee Public Arts Commission, Truckee Chamber of Commerce, Truckee Tahoe Arts Alliance, Truckee Downtown Merchants Association and Nevada County Arts Council will ensure that we are building a more resilient, dynamic, and inclusive destination,” said Eliza Tudor, Executive Director of Nevada County Arts Council.
